Support for Emily McFarland for Mayor

Dear Editor:
I am writing to voice my support for Emily McFarland for mayor. I think it is time for a new generation of leaders to guide city policy, as well as the day-to-day management and administration of our community. It is exciting to have someone as skilled and experienced as Emily step forward and say she’s willing to help.

New energy, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective are valuable on their own for both business and government. Tie that with extensive training, skills and experience related to the job, and you have a clear winner.

Emily is currently a manager at the state Office of Inspector General, which works to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse involving multiple financial programs administered by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

Emily also has a master’s degree in public administration from UW Oshkosh. The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at UW-Oshkosh is one of the best in the state of Wisconsin. Its practical curriculum prepares students to lead and manage a diverse range of state and local government, public, nonprofit, and health care organizations. Graduates have obtained advanced knowledge and top-notch training in managing governmental agencies.

A city the size of Watertown really should have a professional public administrator in addition to the mayor and the council. Although we do not have one currently, we are extremely fortunate to have a candidate for mayor this year who is a natural leader and a professional public administrator. It is a win-win for Watertown!

In addition to having a high-level of public administration know-how and experience, Emily also happens to be a super nice person, a wonderful mother, a regular volunteer, and a proud, life-long resident of Watertown.
Emily has been informally helping improve the well-being of Watertown residents for many years. I truly hope she will be our next mayor.

Kindest Regards, Kevin Ryan (Jan. 22, 2019)
